In Magick there are five main elements, the four traditional elements of Fire, Water, Air and Earth and a fifth element, Spirit. These differ from chemical elements since they do not refer to specific things but rather to qualities of things. Earthy things are solid and reliable but slow, Watery things are fluid and sympathetic but unreliable, Airy things are fast and complicated but ephemeral and Firey things are hot and powerful but difficult to control. Spirit symbolises the magickal "stuff" of which everything is made; the spark of the divine within all. Usually things are a mixture of elements but they may be made up of a greater proportion of one element than of the others.
